The Resolution Series: Tournaments for the L5R CCG

Over the history of the Legend of the Five Rings brand, there have been many storylines that have reached an epic and satisfying conclusion, most with the full participation of L5R’s amazing and engaging fanbase. Due to the nature of the ongoing storyline, however, it is inevitable that some plotlines fail to achieve proper resolution, and some simply fall by the wayside entirely. It is unfortunate, but a part of the ongoing, constantly reshaped narrative that has made L5R unique in the CCG world. This season, a series of tournaments will be taking place that are intended to revisit some of these forgotten plotlines, bringing closure where none was had in previous arcs. These plotlines will come from both the desires of the Story Team to find closure, and from those stories that the fans have asked for repeatedly over the years. It’s time for memories to come alive!

A Storyline Tournament for the L5R CCG

In the previous era of Rokugan’s history, a valiant warrior arose among the ranks of the Empire’s wave men. Kuronada was his name, and his exploits on behalf of his fellow ronin and the Empire as a whole were the subject of numerous poems, stories, and plays. Kuronada’s valor was not easily earned, however. His father was among the greatest tyrants in Rokugan’s history, a shugenja of such power and ambition that after being thrown out from his own clan, he created his own tiny empire hidden in the NorthernWallMountains. Karatsu was his name, although he was known by many titles, including madman, tyrant, despot, and force of nature, just to name a few. He was defeated at the Battle at the Palace of the Breaking Dawn, but his body was never recovered, and many suspected he survived despite that he never resurfaced. His story has remained a mystery until now.

The winner of this tournament may select any one personality affiliated with his clan during the Samurai Edition era of the L5R CCG. That personality will be revealed to have discovered Karatsu in the aftermath of the aforementioned battle and attempted to recuperate the wounded shugenja, unaware of his identity. The saga that unfolds as a result will be revealed through the events of a weekly fiction at some point in the future.
