Z-Man Games Press Release - Discover the Deluxe Classic Card Game Collection

From the Z-Man Games Website

The Z-Man Deluxe Classic Card Game Collection aims to offer luxurious card games with superior quality components, and also include a little bonus in each box: coasters with representative artwork.

BLACK SPY

The first game in the collection made its way to stores last August. In this trick taking game where bluff, strategy, and a bit of luck collide, you will have to keep your hands clean and try not to end up with the black spies. Black spies, if they are used wisely, will propel you to victory, but they will stab you in the back any chance they get if you are not careful.

Black spies are the only cards in the game that will give you points. Since the aim of the game is to be the person with the least amount of points, understandably you do not want to end up with too many black spies in your tricks. However, if you are sneaky, you could gather all of the black spies in your agency, causing terror for your opponents who will each gain 60 points, whilst you will get away without a scratch.

In Black Spy, on your turn you will have the option of playing a card of the lead color or of the same number as the lead card. If it is impossible for you to satisfy any of these conditions, you may then play any spy, regardless of color or number, that you wouldn’t want to be stuck with at the end of the hand. Will you know when it is best to play the color and when you should instead play the number?

That is where the fine strategy in Black Spy lies: knowing which cards to play and when. If you have not mastered this strategy, your first win will elude you…

PARADE

The second game in the series, Parade, was released in September. Take a trip to Wonderland with Alice and her friends. The phenomenal illustrations by Chris Quilliams make Parade a prestigious card game. The big yellow eyes of the Cheshire Cat will hypnotize you (they are especially scary when you come home in the evening to find you copy of Parade lying in the darkness with just two eyes looking at you!), and the overall quality of the very classic looking cards in the game will certainly charm you.

In Parade, you will have to place a card at the end of the parade, while trying to keep as many people in the line as possible. Now why would anyone leave such a pretty parade? If a card is of the same color or a rank that is lower or equal to the card placed, they will leave the parade angrily and come and pout in front of you. There are exceptions to this, but we won’t get in to that here. The cards that leave the parade are placed in front of you and will count for your final score. Since you want to be the person who has the least amount of points at the end of the game, you don’t want to have an angry mob in front of you! However, if you are able to obtain the majority in a color, you will score only one point per card of that color, instead of scoring the number of points equal to the rank of the card.

That is where Parade becomes a very strategic game. Will you try to avoid picking up cards altogether and risk ending up with high cards you don’t want at the end of the game? Or will you try to gather the majority in a color and risk having this majority beaten in the dying seconds of the game? Those are the difficult choices you will have to make in Parade.

ARBORETUM

Next spring, you will be able to discover the third game of the series: Arboretum. With ten different trees, all hand drawn by Chris Quilliams, the colors in this game will charm you instantly.

In Arboretum you will start the game with seven cards in hand. Each round, you will draw two new cards. With now nine cards in hand, you will add a tree to your arboretum in front of you, and discard another.

Sounds simple enough right? Arboretum skillfully combines set collection, tile laying and hand management games. At times, you will not have the card you need in your hand, but you will still have to place a tree in your arboretum, ruining all of your hard work! You will have to plan a few different options in your arboretum in order to avoid unfortunate situations like these.

The Deluxe Classic Card Game Collection now contains three wonderful games and will continue to expand in the future. Collector, occasional players as well as new game fans will be delighted by the quality and beauty of these boxes and their components. Many titles are currently being discussed for the future of the collection, but for now, nothing has been confirmed. You can now discover Black Spy and Parade in your favorite game store and learn more about Arboretum in the months to come.
