AEG is proud to announce that the 2013 Onyx Championship will be held in Santiago, Chile, on December 7th, 2013.
The Onyx Championship
Hidden in the shadows of the Empire and its Colonies,
the Spider conduct their private ceremonies and rituals in secret. They
are recognized, but never accepted, as a Great Clan by their peers, and
while they have embraced service in the name of the Divine Empress, they
often observe the letter of the law and not its spirit. Chief among
these secret rituals is that of the Onyx Champion. Foremost of the
Spider Clan’s limited shugenja, the Onyx Champion utilizes any and every
method at her disposal to gain power and use it, often against the
Spider’s enemies. The current holder of the position, Kitsune Kichi, is a
fearsome and utterly amoral priestess who finds herself often in a
position to advance the Spider’s agenda even as she advances here own,
for while the Onyx Champion does often serve the spider, she just as
often serves her own interests to the exclusion of all others. And the
time has come for Kichi to defend her title.
The winner of this tournament may determine whether Kitsune
Kichi retains her title as Onyx Champion or is deposed. If the winner
chooses for Kichi to remain in place, she will accept a student from her
challengers, a member of the winner’s clan. If she is deposed, then a
member of the winner’s clan shall take her place as Onyx Champion.
The winner of this tournament will also be honored with their name on a Strategy card in a future L5R expansion representing their victory at the Onyx Championship.
