AEG Press Release - 2013 Turquoise Championship – Melbourne, Australia

From the AEG Website

AEG is proud to announce that the 2013 Turquoise Championship will be held in Melbourne, Australia, on December 7th, 2013.

The Turquoise Championship

Of all the Jeweled Champions, none are regarded with more divided opinion than the Turquoise Champion. As the pre-eminent artisan and scholar of all things artistic in the Empire, the Turquoise Champion is a mystery to man, for there are a great number of samurai in the Empire and its Colonies who have no knowledge of, and indeed little interest in, matters of art. Nevertheless, all recognize that a Jeweled Champion must be showed respect and deference, regardless of the nature of his or her duties. And so it is that the Turquoise Champion enjoys a great deal of influence even among the highest levels of society.

In recent months, the former Turquoise Champion abdicated his position. Ikoma Satoru felt that he could not serve his clan as a warrior and a historian if his time was occupied with matters of court. His replacement, the skilled courtier Doji Tatsuki, has no intention of stepping down, and indeed intends to extend the influence of her position as far as possible. Toward this end, she has attempted to ingratiate herself with two of the most powerful people in the world: the sons of the Divine Empress.

The winner of this tournament may select one of the two Imperial heirs: Iweko Seiken or Iweko Shibatsu. A personality from the winner’s clan will be sent as an envoy of the Turquoise Champion to be available to the heir for advice on all matters artistic or political. The second place winner will determine the clan affiliation of the envoy sent to the heir that is not chosen by the winner.

The winner of this tournament will also be honored with their name on a Strategy card in a future L5R expansion representing their victory at the Turquoise Championship.
