AEG Press Release - Event Structure: 2014 L5R Floor Rules

From the AEG Website

Greetings Samurai of Rokugan!

Below you will find a link to the 2014 Floor Rules PDF that will be going into effect as of January 1st, 2014. There are a number of significant changes. With that it is highly recommend that Tournament Organizers, and Players alike, read through to familiarize themselves with.

2014 L5R Floor Rules

Of significant note:
  • Tournament Structure is no longer a single best of one game, and is now a best two out of three game system known as a Match. This is for Swiss Rounds throughout Elimination Rounds.
  • Tournament cut numbers have been clarified, with charts for visual reference.
  • Tiebreaks have also been clarified, along with the mathematics behind it.
  • There is a separate Judges Reference Document that all Head Judges will use to review any issues involving rules infractions during a tournament. This document is currently being worked on, and will be posted in the coming days.
  • In the 2014 Floor Rules there is a document referenced Event Report Form. This will be a new, and expanded, web based form that will be put on www.L5R.com within the coming weeks.
  • Winter Court Events from January 1st, 2014 through February 1st, 2014, as they had been fully planned and promoted under the old floor rules will be allowed to remain best of one games. If at all possible, and it is recommended, that Tournament Organizer choose to utilize the new best two out of three match system in its stead. However, any rules reviews/infractions/violations must follow the 2014 Floor Rules and the soon to be published Judges Reference Document.
As you can tell by the above information, this is a dynamic change to how we all play Legend of the Five Rings. The reason I chose to spearhead this change is that I believe it is an important improvement for the health of the Legend of the Five Rings tournament circuit. This format will be of benefit to old and new players alike, allowing for players to enjoy more games and having a fair arbitration of skill; while lessening the chance for variance in draws that sometimes determine the outcome of events.

For the 2014 Kotei Season, and the Tournament Organizers who have applied or are about to apply, I will work with you to make any adjustments necessary to your application based upon the above changes. I understand that it will require changes to how an event is run, and knowing this I will continue to be a resource for you for all of your questions/concerns/thoughts pertaining to the 2014 Floor Rules.
You may contact me at: Events@Alderac.com

I look forward to the future of the Legend of the Five Rings tournament scene, and how we will all jointly work together to continue to improve this great game we all love!
