Sunday, August 17th at Gencon, 24 qualifiers from the US and Canada, met to determine the Ticket to Ride North American Championship.

On the line – a trip to Paris to compete in the World Championships this September.

After the morning preliminary rounds, 8 players emerged to reach the next round. Semi-finalists included: Kenneth Heilfron,  Scott Scribner, Jay Fox, Genevieve Quintin, Michael Cheng, Nicholas Cheung, Theron Martin, and Philip Cottrell. After 2 semi-final games (Ticket to Ride 1910 Mega version), Kenneth and Scott moved onto the finals to compete for the championship in a best 2 out of 3, head-to-head match, while Jay and Genevieve would battle against each other for the 3rd place trophy.

The final rounds were conducted under the classic Ticket to Ride rules, but using the new 10th Anniversary Edition. The consolation match was hard fought, with Genevieve and Jay splitting the first two games, but Jay prevailed in the final game to take third place.

Remarkably, in getting to the finals, Kenneth had yet to lose any of the 5 games he had played so far. Unfortunately for Scott, that winning streak would continue as Kenneth took two more games, completing a string of 7 straight victories! There is some consolation for Scott though, as both of the finalists earn a trip to Paris to play in the World Championships against the other National Ticket to Ride Champions from around the world.

Congratulations to Kenneth on winning the North American Championship in such commanding fashion. He should be a formidable competitor in Paris. Good luck!
