Scorecard Review – October 2014

October is one of my favorite months.  Not only is it the month when Halloween is but I usually get a lot of gaming is as well.  Unfortunately I was sick on Halloween and that made me late with this review.

In October I played 30 games at 10 events for an average of 3 games per event.  I was able to achieve my goal of player an average of three games per event.  I achieved that goal by playing games that were lighter than I normally do.

In September I was able to get the number of games I played higher but I did not perform as well as I normally do.

In September I was able to play 25 games at 8 events for an average of 3.13 games per event.  I was able to achieve my goal of player an average of three games per event.  I was able to do this by playing more filler games in particular No Thanks.

After Action Report – Board Game Night @ Comic Quest, September 11, 2014

Thursday night I went to the Board Game Night at Comic Quest.  There were 20 – 25 people at the event with five games being played at any one time.

Over the last few events I have been having a hard time with the games I am playing.  The trend continued at this event.  I played three games at the event and did not win a single game.  Let’s look at the games.

The first game I played was No Thanks.   No Thanks is a simple quick play card game that is a great filler game.  It consists of a deck of cards that a numbered in sequence 3 to 35 and 55 red plastic chips.  At the start of the game each player is given 11 chips.  The deck of cards is shuffled and nine cards are removed from the deck face down.  The remaining cards are placed in the center of the playing area.  The players then turn over one card.  The first player decided whether to keep the card or pass it on to the next player.  If the player passes on the card they place one of their chips on it and play continued on to the next player. 

After Action Report – Board Game Night @ Comic Quest, September 4, 2014

I attended the Board Game Night at Comic Quest on Thursday.  Attendance was light this time.  I believe that it had a lot to do with it being the first day back to school for most of the kids in the area as well as it being the first night for NFL football on Thursdays.  There were 17 people at the event with four games being played at any one time.

I played three games at the event.

The first game was Lost Cities:  The Board Game.  In Lost Cities:  The Board Game the players are trying to complete archeological expeditions.  The farther along on an expedition track a player gets, the more points they score.  The player must be careful when starting an expedition because if they do not move at least four spaces on that track they will lose points. 

Scorecard Review – July 2014

July was another light month for me.  I missed two events because I was at Anime Expo early in the month.  I have still not been playing as many games as I had been.

In July I was able to play 17 games at 6 events for an average of 2.83 games per event.  I missed my goal of three games per event for the first time since March.

I won 5 games in July which was which was one less game than I won in June.  I came in second 4 times, third 4 times, fourth 3 times and sixth 1 time.  My average standing from July was 2.53 compared to the 2.11 I had in June.

I played 3 games more than once in July:  Empire Builder, Eurorails, and No Thanks.

I played 1 game for the first time in July:  Strozzi

I have played 148 games at 52 events for an average of 2.85 games per event.  The average number of games I have played per event remains the same as June

I have won 45 games year to date.  My current standing for the year is 2.30 which worsened 0.02 from the end of June.

Since I started tracking my game plays in April 2013, I have played 296 games at 121 events for an average of 2.45 games per event.

I have won 76 games and have a lifetime standing of 2.39.

I played Trans Europa for the tenth time in 2014 in July as I had expected.  This makes two games that I have played 10 time or more in 2014.  I expect that Empire Builder will join them in August.

There was no news on the event front in July but I expect that there will be in August.

After Action Report – Board Game Night @ Comic Quest, July 31, 2014

The attendance at this week’s board game night was again a little lighter than it had been previous to Comic Con. It makes me wonder if this is going to be an ongoing trend or it we will see an increase in attendance again.

There were 20 people at the event with five games being played at any given time.

I played three games at the event.

The first game I played was Trans Europa.  Trans Europa is a game that is deceptively easy to learn but is very difficult to master.  In Trans Europa, the players are required to connect up five different cities in different regions of Europe.  The players start building track from their starting post.  If they connect up to another player’s track, they can build off of that player’s track as well as their own.  In this way players wind up helping each other out while trying to achieve their own goals.  A round ends after the first player reaches their cities.  All of the other players reduce their scores, which start at 13 points, by the number of spaces they missed hitting their cities by.  The game ends when one of the players loses all 13 of their points.  The winner is the person who has the most points remaining.
