After Action Report – Board Game Night @ Comic Quest, September 4, 2014

I attended the Board Game Night at Comic Quest on Thursday.  Attendance was light this time.  I believe that it had a lot to do with it being the first day back to school for most of the kids in the area as well as it being the first night for NFL football on Thursdays.  There were 17 people at the event with four games being played at any one time.

I played three games at the event.

The first game was Lost Cities:  The Board Game.  In Lost Cities:  The Board Game the players are trying to complete archeological expeditions.  The farther along on an expedition track a player gets, the more points they score.  The player must be careful when starting an expedition because if they do not move at least four spaces on that track they will lose points.

Scorecard Review – July 2014

July was another light month for me.  I missed two events because I was at Anime Expo early in the month.  I have still not been playing as many games as I had been.

July

In July I was able to play 17 games at 6 events for an average of 2.83 games per event.  I missed my goal of three games per event for the first time since March.

I won 5 games in July which was which was one less game than I won in June.  I came in second 4 times, third 4 times, fourth 3 times and sixth 1 time.  My average standing from July was 2.53 compared to the 2.11 I had in June.

I played 3 games more than once in July:  Empire Builder, Eurorails, and No Thanks.

I played 1 game for the first time in July:  Strozzi

My stats for July were:

Year to Date

I have played 148 games at 52 events for an average of 2.85 games per event.  The average number of games I have played per event remains the same as June

I have won 45 games year to date.  My current standing for the year is 2.30 which worsened 0.02 from the end of June.

My stats for the five games I have played the most this year to date are:

Lifetime

Since I started tracking my game plays in April 2013, I have played 296 games at 121 events for an average of 2.45 games per event.

I have won 76 games and have a lifetime standing of 2.39.

The five games I have played the most are:

I played Trans Europa for the tenth time in 2014 in July as I had expected.  This makes two games that I have played 10 time or more in 2014.  I expect that Empire Builder will join them in August.

There was no news on the event front in July but I expect that there will be in August.

After Action Report – Board Game Night @ Comic Quest, July 24, 2014

I attended the Board Game Night at Comic Quest on Thursday.  There were not as many people there as normal this week.  I believe this had something to do with Comic Con having started.  Since Comic Con is a fairly local event (San Diego is about an hour drive from Orange County.), many of the locals go to the event.  There were about 20 people at the game night this time.

I was able to play three games.

The first game I played was Trans America.  Trans America is a game that is deceptively easy to learn but is very difficult to master.  In Trans America the players are required to connect up five different cities in different regions of the United States.  The players start building track from their starting post.  If they connect up to another player’s track, they can build off of that player’s track as well as their own.  In this way players wind up helping each other out while trying to achieve their own goals.

After Action Report – Board Game Night @ Comic Quest, May 22, 2014

I attended Board Game Night at Comic Quest on Thursday.  There were 25 people at the event and five games were being played at any one time.

I played six games at the event including one game twice.

The first game I played was Lost Cities.  Lost Cities is one of the games from the first generation of Euro games that made it to the United States.  It is a two person card game.  The theme attached to the game is the players are leading expeditions to five lost cities.  What the players find in each city is represented in a deck of cards that consists of 5 suits of card that have cards numbered 1 – 10 and three multiplier cards.  Each player starts the game with a hand of 8 cards and they take turns either playing a card in front of them or discarding a card into the appropriate suit’s pile and then taking a card from the draw deck or one of the discard piles.  The game ends when the draw pile is depleted.

After Action Report – International Tabletop Day @ Comic Quest, April 5, 2014

The positive feeling I got from this event last year was the thing that motivated me the most to start this blog.  I left it very excited about the idea of sharing my passion for Tabletop Gaming.  As a result, I was looking forward to attending again this year.

There were a number of positive changes compared to last year.  The main one being that Comic Quest now had a gaming space connected directly to their store unlike last year where the gaming space was at the far end of the strip mall from where the store was.  There were also a number of game companies and designers in attendance at the event.  The most recognizable of these were AEG, Cryptozoic Entertainment, and Victory Point Games all of which have their offices located in Southern California.

The only drawback was that there were no tournaments at the event.  Which was probably a good thing since table space was limited.  There were times during the day that there were more players than table space available.
