That means the SIFRP line will continue and we can get back to work on new supplements for the game. We'd like to thank George for believing in us and the game. It is an honor to work with him and to have the chance to play in his amazing creation.

As many of you have noticed, the game's core rulebook has been out of print for many months. With the new agreement in place, we were able to send it back to print. The second printing of A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying: A Game of Thrones Edition releases on August 4 (along with Gadget Guides for Mutants & Masterminds). We have, of course, taken this opportunity to fix the errata from the first printing so it's as up to date as we could make it.

The Dark Naga Challenge is here, and we’re thrilled to see all of the L5R players interested in defending the honor of the Empire from this looming threat. The following L5R events created for Gen Con (TCG1457837, TCG1454466, TCG1457836) have been removed from the Gen Con schedule and replaced with new ones.

After Action Report – Strategic & Adventure Game Association Game Day @ The El Toro Public Library, July 26, 2014

I hosted the Strategic & Adventure Game Association Game Day at the El Toro Public Library on Saturday.  Unlike the game night at Comic Quest the turnout did not seem to be affected by Comic Con.  We had 21 people at the event with five games being played at any one time.

I played three games at the event.  Two of them were from the Empire Builder family.

The first game I played was Iron Dragon.  The setting for Iron Dragon is a fantasy world filled with things like dwarves, elves, and orcs, which is great if you are playing Dungeons & Dragons, but not my preference for a rail game.  As usual I will not review the major differences in this game from the others in the series as I have done so in previous reports.

With the Dark Naga’s forces banished from the Empire and embroiled in a brutal battle for control of the Second City in the distant Colonies, the creature’s malevolent influence is waning from the Emerald Empire, and those who were enslaved to its will find themselves free once more. Unfortunately, not all who were enslaved remained unchanged by the experience. Sarassa, the Ningyo emissary to the Mantis Clan, has warned the Empire of a dangerous warlord rising among the ranks of his people and hopes to punish the humans for his master’s defeat at their hands.

If there are more Rokugani wins recorded in this event, then the Empire shall respond accordingly and Rokugan will deal with the Ningyo threat beforehand: killing the warlord and truly restoring freedom to the Ningyo people. If the Dark Naga claims more wins, however, then the new force of Ningyo will strike a deadly blow to a coastal holding of the Empire and perhaps spark an entirely new war with the forces of a nonhuman civilization within their ranks.

After Action Report – Board Game Night @ Comic Quest, July 24, 2014

I attended the Board Game Night at Comic Quest on Thursday.  There were not as many people there as normal this week.  I believe this had something to do with Comic Con having started.  Since Comic Con is a fairly local event (San Diego is about an hour drive from Orange County.), many of the locals go to the event.  There were about 20 people at the game night this time.

I was able to play three games.

The first game I played was Trans America.  Trans America is a game that is deceptively easy to learn but is very difficult to master.  In Trans America the players are required to connect up five different cities in different regions of the United States.  The players start building track from their starting post.  If they connect up to another player’s track, they can build off of that player’s track as well as their own.  In this way players wind up helping each other out while trying to achieve their own goals.

This 2cm anti-aircraft gun used by various German forces throughout World War II and here we make it available for the tabletop with Deutsche Afrika Korps crew.

It was produced in a variety of models here we have it as a stand alone artillery piece and mounted in a Horch.

After Action Report – Board Game Night @ Comic Quest, July 17, 2014

I am now back in the groove after Anime Expo.  I am back to attending the gaming events that I go to regularly.  On Thursday I went to the Board Game Night at Comic Quest.

Attendance for this event has gone up since Paradise Perks closed its doors and their Thursday night event ended.  There were 30 people at the event with six games being played at any one time.

I played three games during the event.

First I played Eurorails twice.  Eurorails is one of the games in the Empire Builder family.  For those that are unfamiliar with the Empire Builder games here is a brief description of how they are played.  The players own railroad companies that are competing to build rail lines and move freight from one city to another based on a set of demand cards that they have.  Once a demand on a demand card is completed the player discards it and draws a new one from the deck.  Included in the demand card deck are a number of disaster cards which include things like derailments and river floods which impede the player’s progress to victory.

As you’re probably aware, beginning in early December and continuing until some point in February, AEG will be conducting the fourth Winter Court “play-by-post” role playing game (RPG) event. If you’re not familiar with what this is, in summary, we will be running an online, multi-player role playing game set in the Imperial Winter Court. Players will assume the roles of either “carded” characters (that is, characters who represent existing personalities in the collectible card game (CCG)) or “home-brew” characters (these are new characters that players create themselves). Players will post the things their characters say and do, ultimately in order to influence the proceedings of Imperial Winter Court to the benefit of the Empire, their clan and/or themselves. Everything that happens in the upcoming Winter Court 4 event will be canon, with important events, notable characters and significant outcomes being reflected in the ongoing story of Rokugan, as well as potentially being incorporated into the CCG and/or the RPG. This is a major opportunity for fans of the RPG to have a major impact on the story!

Hello Game Crafter Community!

First and foremost, I would like to take a moment to thank all of the participants in this contest.  It was a first for us and initially I was a bit nervous to see what would come of the submissions, but I was quickly surprised and impressed at how great the designs were, how nice a lot of the artwork was and of course appreciated the incredible amount of work that went into each and every game we got to check out.  Next I would like to offer a congratulations to Daniel Schroeder for coming in first place after the scoring.  His game design (Jotunn) was very well developed, had great artwork and presentation and had one of the clearest rulesets overall (something we certainly appreciated during the play tests). We are looking forward to continue the development and production of this game with Daniel.  To all of the other participants, keep up the great work and your involvement in The Game Crafter community and I’m looking forward to seeing some great designs in the future.
