WizKids Press Release - Star Trek: Attack Wing— Admiral’s Order Update 2/3/14
From the WizKids Website
We have carefully considered the feedback that we have received since posting the Admiral’s Orders and would like to give our sincere thanks for all the comments we received from Star Trek: Attack Wing store owners, players and tournament organizers.
For The Dominion War storyline organized play event series, our design team crafted different scenario play for each month that strived to bring the excitement of The Dominion War to the Star Trek: Attack Wing battlefield. While we feel that Admiral’s Orders were a success in that they spurred players to assemble new fleet builds to bring to Star Trek: Attack Wing tournaments, we also want to ensure that the Admiral’s Orders are closely tied to events and do not detract or add an unnecessary layer to the storyline organized play scenarios.

WizKids Press Release - Star Trek: Attack Wing Wave 3 Preview: I.R.W. Gal Gath’thong
From the WizKids Website
This week we finish up our look into the Wave 3 expansions for Star Trek Attack Wing. The final ship is none other than the I.R.W. Gal Gath’thong Expansion Pack taken right from the original series episode, Balance Of Terror. Fittingly, the I.R.W. Gal Gath’thong will be a terror on the battlefield thanks to its ability to fire Plasma Torpedoes without needing a target lock. The elusive Romulan Bird-of-Prey will easily be able to get the drop on your opponent thanks to the amazing ability of the Romulan Commander.

The Romulan Officer and Centurion will see play together to help assist performing in large damage attacks against the opponent. The devious Romulans are always full of tricks like the use of Nuclear Warheads to cause serious damage to an unsuspecting opponent.

Elite Talents are also included in the form of Double Back and Decoy. One allows for greater maneuverability while the other stymies the opponent’s attacks when you just cannot get out of their firing arcs.

All of the upgrades will come to great use as you terrorize the opponent while playing the Destroy The Outposts mission or while playing a standard head-to-head game. Regardless of how you end up fielding it, the I.R.W. Gal Gath’thong Expansion Pack will find its place among the best ships in the Romulan Star Empire. Be sure to seek out all four of the new Wave 3 expansion packs at your friendly local game store when they release next month.

Alternately, Tactical Sensors can be disabled to allow more tactical options for your ship.

However you decide to equip the I.K.S. Somraw or transfer crew to other ships within the Empire, players will get great use out of the components. WizKids Press Release - Star Trek: Attack Wing Wave 3 Preview: U.S.S. Equinox
From the WizKids Website

Noah Lessing is one of the Crew upgrades appearing that can disable an opponent’s shields while Marla Gilmore is able to disable an opponent’s Tech upgrade. Of Course, no Federation ship would be complete without a compliment of Photon Torpedoes as their Weapon Upgrade.

The Emergency Medical Hologram makes his first appearance in the U.S.S. Equinox expansion pack and can be assigned to a ship as a Crew or Tech Upgrade. He can be disabled in the place of another Tech upgrade on a player’s ship which will of great use when players are running the Navigational Deflector Tech upgrade. With all of the great upgrades out there that make use of the Minefield token, this Tech upgrade is going to see play quite often.

Whether using the ship to help complete the included Under Attack mission or as a new addition to their fleet, players will greatly appreciate all of the new enhancements and strategies that can be found within the U.S.S. Equinox Expansion pack for Star Trek: Attack Wing. Keep your eye out for the continuing previews when we take a look at the I.K.S. Somraw Expansion pack to see what the Klingons can expect to come out in February.

Welcome back Star Trek Attack Wing fans to the continuing previews of the Wave 3 expansions. Today we take a look at the U.S.S. Equinox Expansion Pack. At 20 points and with the ability to repair its own shields, the U.S.S. Equinox is going to be a fun addition to Federation fleets. The expansion contains two captains who play well with differing strategies: the defensively minded Rudolph Ransom and the offensive Maxwell Burke.Noah Lessing is one of the Crew upgrades appearing that can disable an opponent’s shields while Marla Gilmore is able to disable an opponent’s Tech upgrade. Of Course, no Federation ship would be complete without a compliment of Photon Torpedoes as their Weapon Upgrade.

WizKids Press Release - Star Trek: Attack Wing Wave 3 Preview: 4th Division Battleship
From the WizKids Website
A new year is upon us so it only seems appropriate that we begin looking into the Wave 3 expansion offerings for Star Trek Attack Wing. We may as well start things off BIG and take a look at the 4th Division Battleship expansion pack that will have Dominion players shouting for joy. At 36 points, the 4th Division Battleship pushes ships stats to a whole new level with a primary weapons value of 6 and an astounding 7 hull points. Using it as the focal point for your fleet is a great idea, especially considering its ability to grant one free action to a friendly Jem’Hadar ship within range 1 or 2. Gelnon makes his first appearance as a Captain for this expansion with an interesting ability that allows a player the opportunity to cause damage to an opponent’s ship during the Activation phase and also the possibility to secure a Battle Station token for his ship. Weyoun returns as a Captain with an upgrade in captain skill as well as a new Elite Talent slot. For those that really love tricking out their fleet, Weyoun can help do that in spades as he adds two Crew slots to a ship’s upgrade bar and gives a 1 SP discount to crew filling those slots if they are of the Dominion faction.

Speaking of Crew Upgrades, we see three new Jem’Hadar crew enter the game with the release of the 4th Division Battleship expansion pack. Kudak’etan will be invaluable when facing an opposing ship with numerous crew upgrades as by discarding him and disabling another crew member, a player will be able to disable all Crew Upgrades on the opposing ship. At 2 points (and no additional SP penalty like the other Jem’Hadar crew), Ixana’rax allows a player to flip over all Critical Damage cards assigned to his ship. Finally, we see the “defensive target lock” ability on Ikat’ika, who can be discarded to force one ship to reroll any number of their attack dice while his ship is defending an attack.

A Battleship would not be complete without a few secondary weapon additions. We see the return of the Phased Polaron Beam which causes the attack to ignore the opposing ships’ Shields. The 4th Division Battleship expansion pack also includes a base attack 5 Photon Torpedoes upgrade which adds +2 attack dice when fired from a Jem’Hadar Battle ship.
The final two upgrades in the 4th Division Battleship expansion pack are keyed to getting the most use out of your Dominion Crew Upgrades. The Elite Talent, Ketracel-White, can be discarded as an action and then the player is allowed to remove all of the Disabled Upgrade Tokens from their Dominion Crew Upgrades. The sole Tech Upgrade will benefit Dominion players greatly. Shroud can be discarded in the place of your Dominion Crew Upgrades. Let me repeat that: when one of your Dominion Crew Upgrades is supposed to be discarded, this 1 SP Tech Upgrade can be discarded instead. Suddenly Ikat’ika and Toman’torax (from the 5th Wing Patrol Ship Expansion) are looking like extremely welcome Crew Upgrades to report to the 4th Division Battleship.

With so many great upgrades, it will be a sad day for the Federation when they try to complete the included Collect Technical Data mission when facing off against a fully loaded Jem’Hadar Battleship. With all of the tokens needed to play the ship right out of the package, the 4th Division Battleship expansion pack for Star Trek Attack Wing will give the push the Dominion need to finish out the Dominion War and achieve the victory they so desperately seek. Stick with us next week as we get pulled into the Delta Quadrant for our review of the U.S.S. Equinox!

WizKids Press Release - Star Trek: Attack Wing Kobayashi Maru Contest Winners!
From the WizKids Website
Last month we issued a challenge to Star Trek: Attack Wing players to take on the Kobayashi Maru Mission that is available in the STAW U.S.S. Enterprise expansion pack.
Congratulations to the Star Trek: Attack Wing The Kobayashi Maru Mission Contest Winners—
Gene Miller & Jason Zablotney (Marysville, PA)
Federation Build (Gene):
Constitution Class Ship 20
Jean-Luc Picard 6
In’Cha 5+1
Jadzia Dax 4
Leonard McCoy 3
Quantum Torpedoes 6
Command Tokens 5
Klingon Build (Jason):
I.K.S. Kronos 24
Martok 5
K’T'Inga Class 22
Gowron 4
K’T'Inga Class 22
Nu’Daq 3
In this masterfully played attempt at the dreaded Kobayashi Maru “no-win scenario”—Gene Miller successfully beams the 3 crew of the Kobayashi Maru to safety while avoiding destruction at the hands of the Klingon fleet in 6 turns! Jason Zablotney valiantly tries to get maneuver Jean-Luc Picard into his cross-hairs but is unable to destroy the Federation ship before it can escape from the quadrant.
Our consolation prize for one of the un-successful attempts at the Kobayashi Maru mission (or successful for the Klingon player—it is all a matter of perspective!) goes to Will Sanchez and Brad Brooks playing at Coolstuff Games in Maitland, FL.
As a Klingon-honorable mention, a shout out to Andrew Jones and Daniel Harris playing at Game Nite in St. Louis, MO— in the game Daniel’s Klingon Boarding Party disables Andrew’s upgrades including Captain James T. Kirk’s “Cheat Death” Elite Talent upgrade before landing the killing blow! Qapla’!

WizKids Press Release - Star Trek: Attack Wing Wave 2 Preview: the U.S.S. Excelsior!
From the WizKids Website

No Federation starship would be able to function well without outstanding crew and the U.S.S. Excelsior Expansion Pack does not disappoint. Dmitri Valtane allows you to re-roll 2 of your attack dice if there is a Scan token next to your ship so he’s a natural to play thanks to the U.S.S. Excelsior’s special ability. For those that love to run Weapon Upgrades, the expansion has two cards for your enjoyment: Lojur and Photon Torpedoes. The Photon Torpedoes are a 4 attack die upgrade that allows you to convert one of your Battle Stations into a Critical Hit. Lojur will keep you firing more frequently as he can be disabled instead of a Weapon Upgrade that has to be disabled as a part of its function.

With the Excelsior Class having a Tech Upgrade slot on its Upgrade Bar, the U.S.S. Excelsior Expansion Pack would be remiss if it did not provide some Tech Upgrades as well. Fans will get great use out of the Positron Beam can be discarded to place an Auxiliary Power token on a target ship within Range 1.When they really need to put some distance between themselves and an opponent or get into the fight quicker, they will want to turn to the Transwarp Drive which will allow the ship to use the straight ahead 6 movement template. That kind of movement will come in handy while attempting to complete the Operation Retrieve mission included in the expansion.

Finally, the expansion contains a Crew Upgrade and Elite Talent Upgrade that were made for each other: Janice Rand and Feint. Former-Yeoman Janice Rand is ready to help out her captain by being discarded to allow your captain to perform the action on one of his Elite Talent Upgrades as a free action. Feint allows a player to discard the upgrade and then target an opposing ship at range 2-3. That ship will roll two less defensive dice if attacked by this ship this round. By causing the Elite Talent to be used as a free action, this allows the ship to still perform a regular action to help out the attack potential even more. Or perhaps you want to use Janice Rand to allow James T. Kirk to perform his legendary Corbomite Maneuver while saving your action to activate Montgomery Scott to repair a shield token so you can stay in the fight even longer.

No matter how you decide to use all of the new cards to fill out your Fleet, the U.S.S. Excelsior will be on many player’s lists come December. With great upgrades and all the tokens needed to play it, the U.S.S. Excelsior Expansion Pack is a fine addition to every Federation player’s fleet options. Make sure you stop into your friendly local game store next week and pick up all of the new ships for Star Trek: Attack Wing!
Star Trek: Attack Wing
U.S.S. Excelsior/Excelsior Class Ship
4 of 4 Wave 2 Star Trek: Attack Wing Expansion Packs
Releases: December 2013
Welcome back, Attack wing fans to the final look at the ships for Star Trek Attack Wing’s Wave 2 release. Like our last round of previews, we will be looking at a starship featured prominently in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country: The U.S.S Excelsior. At 26 points, the U.S.S Excelsior is going to be a very capable addition to Federation fleets. With 5 Hull and 4 Shields, it is well poised to take a hit and still be extremely effective in combat. Its offensive capabilities (with its great 180 degree forward firing arc) will be greatly enhanced by the ability to perform a Scan action as free action as long as there are no enemy ships within range 1. Adding to its ability to stay in a fight is Captain Hikaru Sulu who allows you to shake an opponent’s target lock at the cost of disabling a crew upgrade. Styles also is a great Captain option as he allows you to add an additional Tech slot to his ship. With many Federation ships missing the ability to use Tech upgrades, he’s sure to see a lot of play outside of this expansion since the named and generic version of the Excelsior Class already have a Tech upgrade slot.No Federation starship would be able to function well without outstanding crew and the U.S.S.
