After Action Report – Board Game Night @ Comic Quest, May 29, 2014

I went to Board Game Night at Comic Quest on Thursday.  The night started slowly.  People really did not start showing up until about 30 minutes after the event was supposed to start.  We did end up getting a pretty good turnout.  There were 18 people at the event and four games were being played at any one time.  Event with the late start I was able to play two games.

The first game I played was called On the Underground.  On the Underground is a network development game.  The idea behind the game is the players are trying to help the passenger to move around London using the lines that they develop for the underground transportation system they have.  Depending on the number of players in the game each player receives the pieces that represent the lines that they can develop.  In a two player game each player gets four lines, in a three player game each player gets three lines and in a four or five player game each player gets two lines.

Scorecard Review – March 2014

I have gotten through March.  I did manage to play more games during the month so let us see how I did.

In March I was able to play 22 games at 8 events for an average of 2.75 games per event.  I did play many shorter games in March but because I was sick the first weekend of the month, I only got to play one game at the Brookhurst Hobbies Game Gathering I attended.  This prevented me from achieving my goal of 3 a games per event.

After Action Report – Game Day @ The Duck Club, March 9, 2014

The Sunday event of my game weekend in March was Game Day over at the Duck Club.  This is a 10 hour event that takes place once a month in the local area.  The good things about the event are that it gets a lot of players and you have a lot of time to play games.   The bad thing about the event are that the acoustics in the room are so bad that one the event gets to about half the capacity it gets almost impossible to hear the people that are participating in the game your are playing.  Because of those poor acoustics, I can only stand to be at the event for 4 -5 hours before the background noise drives me away.  There were around 50 people at the event and 10 games were being played t any one time.

I was able to play three games at the event.

The first game I played was Ticket to Ride using the 1910 Mega Game deck.  The theme of the game is that the players are owners of train companies that are building rail lines in the United States.   The goal is to establish routes between the cities on the tickets that the players receive.  If the players connect the cities on a ticket they will receive bonus points at the end of the game based on the value on the ticket.  If they do not connect the cities on one of their tickets the player loses the number of points on the ticket.  Points are also scored for placing trains between two cities on the board more trains needed the more points are scored.

After Action Report – Strategic & Adventure Game Association@ El Toro Public Library, March 8, 2014

On Saturday I started my weekend of gaming at the Strategic & Adventure Gaming Association event at the El Toro Public Library.  There were 23 people at the event and five games were being played at any one time.

I was able to play three games at the event.

Scorecard Review – December 2013

2013 is over.  As we start 2014 it is time to take a final look back at my performance for 2013.

December

With it being the holiday season in December I did not expect much, especially considering how Thanksgiving reduced the number of events I was able to attend.  I did manage to put up some reasonable numbers.

In December I was able to play 12 games at 6 events for an average of 2 games per event.  This is the lowest number of games per event since July of this year.

I only won 3 games in December compared to November.  I came in second 4 times, third 4 times and fourth 1 time.  My average standing for December went down again to 2.25 from the 2.20 I had in November.

I did not play any games more than once in November.

I played eight games for the first time in December:  Blueprints, Boxcars, Cornish Smugglers, Coup, Kashgar, Paperback, Ticket to Ride Nederland, and Wildcatters.

Final Numbers for the Year

The total number of games that I played from April to the end of December was 148 games at 60 events for an average of 2.47 games per event.  This is down 0.05 from our last review.

I won 30 games since I started recording my stats in 2013.  My final standing for 2013 was 2.49 which improved 0.02 from the 2.51 I had at the end of November.

It appears I had fairly solid numbers for the year.  For the Scorecard review in January we will reset the stats for 2014.  As the year goes by we will compare how I do in 2014 to how I did last year.
