From the Warlord Games Website
The first ever Warlord Games Day was a rip-roaring success, so in
case you missed all the excitement, here’s what happened on the day:
On the 27th July, 400 people arrived at the great hall here at
Warlord HQ. They consisted of most of Warlord’s staff members, others
from the wargames industry at large, and of course members of the public
– a mixture of gamers, painters, modellers, sculptors and artists, all
looking forward to a great day.
The hall was set out with more than 20 participation games, including
everything from Bolt Action, Hail Caesar and Black Powder to Witch
Finder General and In Her Majesty’s Name. There were also painting
tables, a range of trade stands where you could grab the latest models,
and, if you looked hard enough, some exciting exclusive previews such as
the huge Pegasus Bridge model and US Marine Corp plastics due for
release next year!
In a side room there was a series of seminars from games designers
Rick Priestley, Alessio Cavatore and Andy Chambers – discussing upcoming
projects, Warlord studio manager Paul Sawyer – showing off the latest
models, and sculpting supremos Michael and Alan Perry – passing on some
inspiring tips and tricks of the trade. All of them were happy to answer
questions and listen to the ideas and comments of the audience.
Meanwhile, there were tours of the Warlord factory, with
demonstrations of the casting process for resin and metal miniatures. A
few people even got to take away some freshly cast figures hot off the
press.
Finally, the lucky winners of the Golden Tickets got a private tour
of the design studio conducted by Warlord owner (and all-round nice
chap) John Stallard, plus a goodie bag of toys to take home.
Everyone agreed it was a brilliant day, and you’ll be pleased to know
that we are planning more Games Days as well as other events for the
coming years. Watch this space!
We musn’t forget to give a big thank-you to the Sonnet Cafe for providing delicious grub to everyone who attended.
Thanks also to everyone who wrote a blog post about the day. If you want to read more, we’ve spotted these:
