The Community of players that surrounds the Legend of the Five
Rings games is second to none. Every day we hear stories of players who
have gone out of their way to help a friend in need of a card, to
prepare an amazing RPG adventure, or to lend a deck to someone who wants
to learn. These people are what make L5R such a great game to be
involved with. The L5R team knows that listening to the players is one
of the main ways that we can work to make the game better. We want
everyone who plays the game to feel like they are part of the Story and
world that makes the setting so special.
Recently, the L5R Team was approached by a well-known veteran player, James Donnithorne-Tait, better known as Donny in the community. Donny proposed the idea of having an L5R User Group, made up of players and event organizers from all over the world, to solicit feedback and help make the game better. Donny’s idea was well thought out and, after review by the L5R Team, we have given him the go-ahead to organize this User Group.

After Action Report – Game Day @ El Toro Public Library, September 13, 2014
I hosted the Game Day at the El Toro Public Library on Saturday. The turnout was high. There were 26 people at the event and seven
games were being played at any one time.
I played three games at the event.
The first game I played was Eurorails. Eurorails is a Empire Builder game set in
Europe from Kaliningrad in the east to the western shores including the United
Kingdom and Ireland. The goal in
Eurorails is to collect $250 and for the player to have connected six of the
seven major cities in the game. In the
current edition of the game the option of building the Chunnel between France
and England is now available. The cost
is prohibitive and I would not recommend it unless there are four or more
players in the game and a player is spending most of their time moving to and
from England.

After Action Report – Board Game Night @ Comic Quest, September 11, 2014
Thursday night I went to the Board Game Night at Comic
Quest. There were 20 – 25 people at the
event with five games being played at any one time.
Over the last few events I have been having a hard time with
the games I am playing. The trend
continued at this event. I played three
games at the event and did not win a single game. Let’s look at the games.
The first game I played was No Thanks. No Thanks is a simple quick play card game
that is a great filler game. It consists
of a deck of cards that a numbered in sequence 3 to 35 and 55 red plastic
chips. At the start of the game each
player is given 11 chips. The deck of
cards is shuffled and nine cards are removed from the deck face down. The remaining cards are placed in the center
of the playing area. The players then
turn over one card. The first player
decided whether to keep the card or pass it on to the next player. If the player passes on the card they place
one of their chips on it and play continued on to the next player.

After Action Report – Games Gathering @ Brookhurst Hobbies, September 6, 2014
I attended the North Orange County Board Gamers Games
Gathering at Brookhurst Hobbies on Saturday.
There were about 20 people at the event with five games being played at
any one time.
I managed to have a poor performance at the event even
though I did enjoy myself.
I played two games at the event.
The first game that I played was Lunar Rails from the Empire
Builder family. For those that are
unfamiliar with the Empire Builder games here is a brief description of how
they are played.
